FINCHES
A quarantine procedure is important even if you know your new bird is healthy. Even the healthiest specimen can introduce harmful pathogens into your flock. I've recently changed my quarantine procedure in my move to use more natural treatments for my birds.
Quarantine Procedure
Day 1-2
- FOR BUGS: Mist birds & carrier with Avian Insect Liquidator* and apply
1 drop of Scatt* to each bird
- FOR STRESS: Energize* in water
Days 3-4
- FOR BACTERIA: Bleach Solution (1 drop regular bleach to 2 oz. of distilled
or bottled water)
This is optional. I use it only if I suspect the bird may be carrying something
or if I got the bird from a source I do not know well
Days 5-28
- Plenty of rest and lots of love
I observe the birds during this period for
any signs of stress or illness. I often keep the cage partially covered for
the first week or two to give the newcomers privacy and a chance to adjust
to their new home.
